Small Dogs, Big Needs: Why Choosing a Kennel That Specialises in Small Dogs is Important for Your Furry Friend’s Well-Being.

At Harfields Pet Retreat, we believe that small-medium dogs deserve the best possible care and attention. That’s why we specialise in caring for small-medium dogs at our boarding kennels, providing an environment that caters to their unique needs. In this blog, we’ll be discussing the importance of choosing a kennel that specialises in small to medium sized dogs and the benefits that come with it.

Small Dogs, Big Needs

Small dogs have specific requirements that need to be met to ensure their comfort, happiness, and well-being. So, when you choose a kennel specialising in small dogs, you can be sure that your furry friend is receiving the tailored care and attention they need. At Harfields Pet Retreat, we provide specialised care that considers the unique needs of small dogs, including shorter exercise periods, smaller spaces, and more personal attention.

Specialised Facilities for Small Dogs

Small dogs require specialised facilities that cater to their unique needs. At Harfields Pet Retreat, we provide kennels designed specifically for small and medium-sized dogs (up to 50cm at the withers). Each suite is heated with a TV to provide company for each dog when staff are not around.

Additionally, our exercise paddocks are designed to ensure that small dogs can run, play, and exercise safely and comfortably. We also provide low ramps to help dogs with shorter legs get up and down easily.

Expertise in Small Dog Behaviour

Small dogs can sometimes be more sensitive, anxious, or reactive than larger breeds, so choosing a kennel that specialises in smaller sized dogs is essential.

As owners of small dogs, we have years of experience caring for them and understanding their behaviour, needs, and habits. Our team is trained to provide expert care that ensures that small dogs feel safe, comfortable, and loved during their stay.

Additional Attention and Interaction

Small dogs are generally pampered more at home, making staying at a boarding kennel more of a shock to them. However, as small dog owners, we understand that your furry friend will require more nurturing and attention than other dogs. That is why we ensure that each guest gets at least 3 exercise or play sessions daily. This can be playing fetch or tug of war or just mean sitting with your small dog and making a fuss of them. There is also an ‘in-suite enrichment’ session in the evening to get them settled for the night.

High Employee-to-Dog Ratio

Small dogs require individual attention and care to ensure their happiness and well-being. Harfields Pet Retreat has a high employee-to-dog ratio, ensuring that each dog receives personalised care and attention. Our staff members get to know each dog personally, providing one-on-one care and attention. Additionally, our small facility allows us to get to know each dog’s unique personality, habits, and requirements, ensuring we can provide them with the best possible care.

Peace of Mind for Owners

Leaving your furry friend behind can be a stressful experience for both you and your dog. By choosing a kennel that specialises in small dogs, you can have peace of mind knowing that your furry friend is in good hands. At Harfields Pet Retreat, we provide specialised care, attention, and facilities that cater to the unique needs of small dogs. Additionally, our team keeps you updated on your furry friend’s stay, so you can rest assured that they are happy, comfortable, and relaxed during their stay.

Choosing a kennel that specialises in small dogs has numerous benefits. At Harfields Pet Retreat, we believe that small dogs deserve the best possible care, attention and facilities, and our specialised boarding service provides just that.

- About Harfields Pet Retreat -

As owners of two toy poodles ourselves, we were frustrated with not being able to find suitable kennels for our beloved dogs when they went on holiday. We always felt guilty putting our dogs in a boarding kennel that seemed more like a prison.

So we decided to take matters into our own hands and open a boarding kennel design to provide the care and attention that small dogs need. As our name suggests, Harfields Pet Retreat provides a luxury experience for small dogs so that they are not just safe and secure but actually enjoy their time with us.

Your Furry Friend Deserves the Best - Why Harfields Pet Retreat is the Perfect Choice for Small Dogs Dogs have been our best friends since before any of us can remember. But they are more than friends. They are family members, and most of us would gladly take them when we take a week or two in the sun or on the slopes. However, not only is this not practical, but it would also be stressful for our dogs. Most of us have two choices. Firstly we can entrust friends or family members to look after our dogs or place them in a boarding kennel while enjoying our holiday. But, unfortunately, boarding kennels conjure up quite negative images for most of us: long rows of cages full of barking dogs and cold concrete floors. For most dogs, this is a shock to the system. They go from having lots of attention and cuddles on the sofa to a mesh cage. Smaller dogs get more attention at home, so the shock is often much worse. At Harfields Pet Retreat, we take pride in providing exceptional care for small and medium-sized dogs. Our luxury boarding kennels are designed to ensure that your furry friend feels safe, comfortable, and loved while you're away on holiday. So if you're looking for a place where your furry friend can relax, Harfields Pet Retreat is the place for them.
